The Company is a leading, private equity backed world-class specialty materials company that develops synthetic rubbers and chemical solutions for use across transportation, medical, industrial and consumer sectors. As we expand, we are strengthening our finance and accounting function to deliver accurate cost analysis, inventory valuation, and margin insights. We seek a Cost Accountant with manufacturing or distribution experience.
About the Role
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for analyzing product and material costs, maintaining standard costing systems, preparing cost variance analyses, and partnering with operations to improve margin performance. This individual will ensure accurate costing and profitability tracking, with a special focus on chemical-based materials and processes relevant to our business.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting & Analysis: Develop and maintain standard cost models for products/materials. Perform cost variance analyses. Partner with operations and supply chain on margin improvement
Inventory & Valuation: Oversee inventory valuation, reconciliations, and reporting. Support physical counts
Ensure accuracy of raw material, WIP, and finished goods cost tracking
Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare monthly cost accounting entries and reporting. Support external audits with cost and inventory documentation. Ensure GAAP compliance
Operational Partnership: Collaborate with plant managers, procurement, and R&D. Provide cost insights for pricing, sourcing, and investment decisions
Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement process improvements in cost tracking and reporting. Contribute to ERP/accounting system enhancements
Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A): Support financial due diligence by analyzing target company cost structures, inventory accounting, and margin performance. Assist with integration of cost accounting policies, systems, and processes post-acquisition to ensure consistency and comparability across the enterprise. Partner with operations and finance teams to identify cost synergies and efficiency opportunities following acquisitions
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred
3+ years of cost accounting experience, including chemical or process manufacturing exposure
Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, inventory valuation, and variance analysis
ERP systems experience (SAP strongly preferred)
Advanced Excel and analytical skills
